🗯Ahead of the SCOTUS ruling on Roe v. Wade and in honor of Pride Month, we’ve got some timely reminders on the gender-neutral abortion language we should all be using.🗯

Everyone with a uterus can become pregnant and needs access to abortion care, as well as the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare. Using inclusive, gender-neutral language, like “people seeking abortions,” instead of “women seeking abortions,” when talking about abortion is just one way to ensure LGBTQIA+ people are represented in the reproductive justice movement and face less stigma when accessing abortion and all forms of reproductive healthcare.

To find more resources on gender-neutral abortion language, visit tfn.org/gender-neutral-abortion-language or view the link in our bio for easy access.

CASA of Travis CountyOur Early Family Engagement program was created to help children foster connections with family members, engage relatives who might be potential placements, and to build a community of caring, loving adults for every child we serve. Recently, CASA’s Early Family Engagement Team was able to identify more than 20 relatives for a sibling group we serve—creating an array of healthy connections and potential placements for these children that didn’t exist before CASA became involved with the case. We are so proud of this team’s work to build and foster family relationships for the children we serve! #CASAShowsUp

Today marks a year since SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade with their ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization — giving individual states the power to regulate abortion laws and our freedom over our own bodies.

But while Roe deserved to be protected, it was never enough. We were always meant to go beyond what we’d won in 1973. In 2023, our only choice is to build something new. Read our full reflection on the first anniversary of the Dobbs decision at tfn.org/dobbs-anniversary.

CASA of Travis CountyYouth in the child welfare system who identify as gay, transgender, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and questioning can often feel misunderstood, isolated, and unaccepted. They need someone who understands. Someone who will be there. That person could be you.

CASA of Travis CountyOur Family Finding Program is something we're extremely proud of at CASA of Travis County, precisely because of happy endings like this: When two young boys came into our care, it seemed initially that their biological father wasn't engaged as either a possible placement or support system for his sons. However, we knew how impactful it would be to connect these children with a safe, loving family member and decided to try and connect with the father through our Family Finding Program. The Family Finding volunteer was quickly able to find contact information, and as soon as the dad found out his kids were in care, he jumped right in and got involved! The case was closed quickly after, and most importantly, the boys are home with their father.

“I will not let people who don’t know me or my family destroy our lives. I hope my fellow Texans will do the same by voting for people who want to make the state better — not erase families like mine.” - The loving parent of a transgender child from Texas

We asked three families of transgender youth to share about themselves and their experiences on the devastating passage of Senate Bill 14 during 2023’s 88th Legislative Session.

CASA of Travis CountyA week ago today, our community came together from many homes across Austin to raise one powerful voice for local children who’ve experienced abuse or neglect. Your generosity meant that we soared past our 2021 CASAblanca goal, and we raised an incredible $940,000 to help 470 children have CASA’s advocacy and support for an entire year! We’re unendingly grateful to everyone who donated and attended, and a special thank you to our Top Sponsors! #casablancagala

CASA of Travis CountyWhen it’s safe to do so, CASA believes it is in children’s best interest to stay connected to their families. In one recent case, CASA recommended that both parents engage in a sober community in order to maintain their sobriety. Both mom and dad fully committed to the process and built a stable support system of people who were invested in their success. Mom has even gone back to school in order to learn how to help others maintain sobriety! After months of hard work and never missing a visit with their children, the family was safely and happily reunited. Which, in our eyes, is the biggest victory of all! #CASAShowsUp #NationalReunificationMonth
